SY 2017-18 Welcome Letter

August 7, 2017

Aloha Parents/Guardians and Students,

Welcome to the 2017-18 school year at Solomon Elementary.  I am very excited to be teaching at Solomon Elementary again this year and hope everyone had a great summer filled with adventure and fun.

I have been a third grade teacher here at Solomon Elementary for 8 years. I have also taught preschool, kindergarten, second grade and fourth grade, but truth be told I really enjoy third graders and have to say that has been my favorite grade to teach so far!

I was born and raised on Oahu, graduated from Punahou School and received my Bachelor of Arts Degree from UC Santa Barbara. Prior to becoming a teacher I was a flight attendant for 13 years, went to Culinary School, dabbled in “Personal Cheffing” and completed the Master's Program in Elementary Education at Chaminade University in 2010. I am a Highly Qualified Teacher and hold a State of Hawaii Teaching License.

Your child’s success is my first priority and to ensure this success, it is important that we maintain open communication. You can email me at , send a note to school with your child or call me after school and I will respond as soon as possible, although emailing is the best way to get the quickest response. I look forward to creating an educational partnership with you and your child that will foster courage, determination, and a passion for knowledge.  In addition to this, my commitment as an educator will be to provide your child with a nurturing and challenging educational environment that will ensure his/her academic success in 3rd grade.

Please encourage your child to share his or her school experiences with you on a daily basis. Third grade is somewhat of a transitional year. The students are learning to be more independent and more responsible. There may be more homework, however I am here to work with you so that your child does not get discouraged. If your child does not complete their homework please send a note with them stating why they could not complete it and when it will be completed.

During the first week of school, the students became familiar with their classrooms, classmates, teachers, and classroom routines and procedures. Regular homework assignments will most likely begin on Monday, August 14th.

Third grade is full of challenges and exciting new discoveries. I am honored to be a part your child’s 3rd grade adventure!

Ms. Jennifer Freitas

P.S. Please email me at as soon as possible so that I will have your email address on file. This is only to send reminders or communicate to you about your child.
