Principal's Message

Aloha Solomon ‘Ohana,

It has been a privilege to serve the Schofield families for the past 3 years as a Vice Principal of Solomon Elementary School.  Serving military families at Schofield Barracks is part of my family’s history.  In the 1930s my grandfather served as an enlisted soldier in the Third U.S. Engineers, helping to design the Kolekole pass.  I had the honor of bringing my father to see where Grandpa lived and served. Together we visited the Tropic Lightning Museum and Kolekole pass.  Now like my grandfather, I proudly serve the military families as the Principal at Solomon Elementary.

Solomon Elementary promotes the total well-being of the military child.  The vital responsibility of educating our children is taken seriously.  We strive to inspire and nurture the whole child.  Our faculty and staff will always aspire for excellence in our teaching, systems of support, and education.  We devote ourselves to student safety, security, and continued academic success.

As we are in this challenging and ever changing time, my first priority is the safety of our children and staff as we plan for the opening of the school year.  Your child’s well-rounded education is central to the return to school plans.  Although the schedule and opportunities may look different, you can be assured that the student is a central piece.

We recognize that our students come from all around the world with an array of experiences and learning.  Our school belief is to meet students where they are and to prepare them to be contributing citizens of a global community by encouraging forward thinking and investing in their educational attainment.  We will continue our essential classes: Visual arts, performing arts, computer science, and makerspace.  Also, we will continue our Response to Intervention opportunities.

As we look forward to the opening of this school year, please be assured that your child is in the safe and caring hands of our school staff and teachers.  Whether you are electing to have your child attend the 100% Distance Learning or participate in the face-to-face hybrid model, we are committed to their safety and well-rounded education.

I look forward to working in partnership with you for the continued growth of our children.

With warmest aloha,

Thomas Swan, Principal
